Regular alcohol intake 'lowers' heart disease in men

Regular alcohol consumption could lower the chances of men contracting coronary diseases, while frequent alcohol drinking has less effect upon women in terms of heart disease, a new study claims. Research published in the British Medical Journal today suggests that there are significant differences between men and women when it comes to the effect of alcohol drinking patterns upon heart disease.

The Centre for Alcohol Research at the National Institute for Public Health in Denmark believes that while moderate drinking has long been known to slightly reduce the risk of heart disease, this new study highlights that male regular drinkers could be lowering the chance of coronary complications, although they stress that the research should not be interpreted as an excuse to justify excessive alcohol consumption.

Medical researchers from the institute found that in a study involving over 50,000 men and women aged between 50 and 65 over a period of years, the average woman drinks 5.5 alcoholic units during a week and a man 11.3.

They discovered that women who drank alcohol on average once per week had a significantly lower risk of heart disease than females who consumed alcoholic drinks less than once every seven days.

Women who drank alcohol everyday during a week, however, only had a marginally lower risk of suffering from coronary disease, suggesting that for women the quantity of alcohol consumed is more important a deciding factor in reducing the risk of heart problems than the frequency. In direct comparison, men who drank every day were six times less likely to develop heart conditions than men who only drank once per week on average. The researchers stressed, however, that the harmful effects of alcohol far exceed its benefits in reducing the risk of heart disease.

All sorts of new calcium preparation in the market

The key factor to consider when buying calcium supplements is the amount of elemental calcium they contain. The term elemental calcium refers to the amount of calcium in a supplement that's available for your body to absorb. Most calcium supplements list the amount of elemental calcium on the label. But some brands list only the total weight — in milligrams (mg) — of each tablet. This is the weight of the calcium, plus whatever it's bound to — such as carbonate, citrate, lactate or gluconate.

Calcium Citrate(Percent of elemental calcium: 21%)
Best absorbed supplemental form of calcium. It does not require the presence of extra stomach acid to dissolve. Calcium citrate can come in colloidal form. This is a liquid form of calcium that may be less irritating to the intestinal wall.

Calcium Carbonate (Percent of elemental calcium: 40%)
Most common type of calcium supplement on the market. Usually requires extra stomach acid for digestion, so should be taken with a meal.

Calcium Phosphate, Calcium Lactate, and Calcium Gluconate have very small percentages of elemental calcium in each supplement tablet. Therefore it is necessary to take a large number of tablets to consume an adequate amount of calcium every day. These calcium supplements should be avoided for this reason.

IgG Colostrum Milk

I saw a few pharmacies carrying IgG Colostrum Milk.

Under "Nutritional Facts" according to the Food Safety & Quality - Labeling Department, the IgG level or even the antibody level is not permitted to be on the box. I know as I have done a few of these registration cases for Colostrum Milk.

Antibodies are proteins of more than 1,000 amino acids and the new baby could not possibly get them through the mother's milk which went into the baby's body through the mouth and stomach. The antibodies are digested into amino acids and can never be absorbed into the blood as a complete ANTIBODY. The intestines can only absorb peptides of 15-30 amino acids long.

The basic unit of each antibody is monomer. An antibody can be monomeric, dimeric, trimeric, tetrameric, pentameric etc. The monomer is a "Y"-shaped molecule that consists of two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains connected by disulfide bonds.

There are five types of heavy chain: γ, δ, α, μ and ε. They define classes of immunoglobulins. Heavy chains α and γ have approximately 450 amino acids, while μ and ε have approximately 550 amino acids.

There are only two types of light chain: λ and κ. In humans they are similar, but only one type is present in each antibody. Each light chain has two successive domains: one constant and one variable domain. The approximate length of a light chain is from 211 to 217 amino acids.

HerbalLife

I came across a bottle of HerbalLife (Australian packaging) in a beautician's shop in Miri.

People will lose weight fast but eventually gain it back just as fast (I was told).

This is because per serving of 29gram (there is only 15.5 gram of carbohydrate). It is basically a vitamin powder as per the labelling.

If you replace a meal with HerbalLife you eat 200 grams less of carbohydrates. i.e a plate of rice has around 250 grams of carbohydrates. That means you are having a deficit of 200 grams of carbohydrates.

When we eat carbo, it is digested and enters the blood as glucose. It is stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles. 1 gram of glycogen is stored in combination with 4 grams of water. Hence when you store 2oo grams of glycogen, you will gain 1 kg.

If you have a deficit of 200 grams of carbo, likewise you will lose 1kg (80% of that is water).

WHAT WE NEED IS TO LOSE FAT, NOT WATER!

Type-2 diabetes 'kills in middle-age'

Beware as even with borderline diabetes there is already small vessel damage ongoing

Those suffering from type-2 diabetes are three times more likely to die in middle-age than those without the disease, new research claims.

The study, published in the journal of Diabetic Medicine, found that deaths among type-2 diabetes sufferers were far more frequent than in the general population, based on recorded deaths between 1992 and 1999.

Across all age groups, type-2 diabetes sufferers were found to be twice as likely to die compared with healthy individuals. The findings are the first to confirm increased deaths from type-2 diabetes in younger people, something that researchers say should prompt healthcare professionals to focus on earlier diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Professor Dr.Ch__g

I am currently in Miri.

I was at an exhibition on the weekend and saw an Iridologist doing his stuff. Every person he consulted were all eventually prescribed the same product "Strath". I really wonder does every person have the same problems? On his name card, he claims to be a Iridologist & Nutritionist & a health consultant with credentials from the Phiilipines Institute of Iridology. I really wonder how much nutrition he knows.

A few years ago I made a trip to Kuching and met a Professor Dr.Ch--ng. He practices as an iridologist and also as a health consultant. The next day I met someone who trained under him and this was what I was told. The first degree was in Commerce from Tasmania. Then he did an MBA and got a Doctor of Business Administration from some obscure university in USA (online).

Then he mamaged to get the obscure university to set up a MBA program in Kuching (not even recognized), and since he lectured in the course, he called himself "Professor". Its premises is just a shoplot with a handful of students. Professor!^&%$#@.

He has been doing some course online on alternative health.... and now plies his trade as a health consultant, even in KL. AMAZING!
