Fuda Hospital, Guangzhou

I have never heard of Fuda Hospital before till I met a couple from Kuching, Malaysia on a flight. The wife has stage 4 rectal cancer and has been treated in Malaysia and Singapore with chemotherapy etc. They were referred to Fuda Hospital for further treatment.

Apparently Fuda receives a lot of stage 4 cancer cases from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Middle east, and even America and Australia as they offer many new albeit experimental therapies that are not offered elsewhere.

About Fuda:
Besides the conventional treatments for cancer via surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy; the hospital has brought together innovative and proven new technologies such as cryosurgical ablation (CSA),vascular interventional therapy, Cancer Microvessel Intervention (CMI), photodynamic therapy, seed knife branchytherapy, radiofrequency ablation and bio-immunotherapy. It's well known in the world that the hospital features cryosurgical ablation (CSA), Cancer Microvessel Intervention (CMI), combined immunotherapy for cancer (CIC) and personalized therapy in cancer treatment, which is also called "3C+P" mode.

Christian groups: Nothing wrong with hudud as long as non-Muslims protected

In Malaysia we are still debating whether to implement hudud laws. For those from other places, "Hudud is arm of the Muslim law that pertains to 6 criminal prosecutions, and is feared because it prescribes punishment that includes stoning to death, the amputation of limbs and whipping. The 6 hudud crimes are theft, highway robbery, illegal sexual intercourse, false accusations of zina or adultlery, drinking alcohol and apostasy."

I wonder which countries has fully implemented these laws and if you go to these places whether there will be many people with missing limbs as a result of trespassing these laws.

World economy apparently more ill than me

I was watching CNN Live which covered the IMF Press Conference in Washington about 30 mins ago. Christine Lagarde the IMF Managing Director gave the usual hype that the world economy is in bad shape with problems even in the US and Europe being the epicenter blablabla!.

Then an Indian man by the name of Tharman who is the Chairman of the IMF spoke really well and intelligently and I asked myself who is he! I found out that he is not only the Chairman of the IMF but the current Minister of Finance, Singapore. Economics had always been my favorite subject in high school not science. Oh Well!

A few months ago I saw a Charlie Rose program featuring an interview of the General Manager of the World Bank and she spoke really eloquently. Only later did I found out that she was the former Finance Minister of Indonesia who was responsible for cleaning up the corruption practices which has led to her country's current economic revival.

IV Nexium saved me from misery

Tuesday nite I had severe central abdominal pain. I went to the GP and got some buscopan and managed to sleep through the nite. The next day I was still in pain and went to get some ranitidine and that didn't help. Then I took Losec and that didn't help.

I went to a Hospital A&E at night (Wed) as the pain worsened, and asked for IV Nexium and got it injected at 11pm. The doctor suggested I be admitted which I refused. I asked them to take a blood sample for amylase to rule out acute pancreatitis. They pain continued to 2am. At 3am they hospital called and told me my amylase was normal so I whacked another Losec. Now I have not eaten properly for 3 days and am slightly slimmer. Up to now I have not eaten a full meal.

马来西亚的骄傲 :I still go back to this old posting and admire her singing this song

A familiar creed worth revisiting

I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

I believe
that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.

I believe
that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master.

I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living, but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living.

I believe
that thrift is essential to well-ordered living and that economy is a prime requisite of a sound financial structure, whether in government, business, or personal affairs.

I believe that truth and justice are fundamental to an enduring social order.

I believe
in the sacredness of a promise, that a man’s worth should be as good as his bond; that character – not wealth or power or position – is of supreme worth.

I believe
that the rendering of useful service is the common duty of mankind and that only in the purifying fire of sacrifice is the dross of selfishness consumed and the greatness of the human soul set free.

I believe
in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name, and that the individual’s highest fulfillment, greatest happiness, and widest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with His will.

I believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that it alone can overcome hate; that right can and will triumph over might.

Legend beer

You may not have heard of LEGEND beer but may be more familiar with Starker beer sold in Overtime outlets in Sunway Giza, Life Center, 1 Mont Kiara etc. Well, Legend is brewed by the same brewery as Starker. I bought 2 cases to try and find it quite good. However, the price differential from Tiger and Carlsberg is marginal so I dont think in the long run I will keep buying it.

LOOKING FOR WORK!

A doctor from Israel says: "In Israel the medicine is so advanced
that we cut off a man's testicles; we put them into another man, and in
6 weeks he is looking for work."

The German doctor comments: "That's nothing, in Germany we take part of the brain out of a person; we put it into another person's head, and in 4 weeks he is looking for work."

A Russian doctor says: "That's nothing either. In Russia we take
out half of the heart from a person; we put it into another person's
chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking for work."

The U.S.doctor answers immediately: "That's nothing my colleagues, you are way behind us....in the USA, about 2 years ago, we grabbed a person from Kenya with no brains, no heart, and no balls....we made him President of the United States, and now........ the whole country is looking for work!"

Chawat

I learned a new word "CHAWAT". What I am wearing is not a sarong but a chawat that is worn by some tribal group. In fact most tribal people seem to wear little, either leaves or modest bits of cloth like this unless you come from some Nordic or Antarctic tribe.

This photo was taken on our GH5 Merdeka Freedom run on 30 August 2011. After the run we had to wear a sarong and those that do not have a sarong was given this to wear :-).

I had not been running for 9 weeks as I did my ankle mid-June and it is still not 100%. The fact that my belly is protruding shows that I have not been exercising much :-). I just walked that day.

On December 10 we have an annual dinner and the theme is "cartoon". I was thinking of painting my body green and turn up as the Incredible Hulk which is my hash name. If I don't lose my belly I may have to turn up as Fat Albert or Fred Flintstone :-(.

Sheep Placenta manufactured in Malaysia

Now we have a placenta capsule manufactured in Malaysia priced rather low. The economy remains sluggish in Malaysia and non-essentials are a hard sell. Even moon cakes vendors found it hard to sell moon cakes this year in Malaysia.

I am glad we have put our investments in China and HK.

Apartment pool at night

Sometimes I go to the poolside at night with an esky of beer to enjoy to night breeze in solitude.

Apartment pool

I took this photo from the balcony of my apartment. The pool at Level 3A is 40 meters.

For those who do not understand Chinese beliefs, why Level 4 is always renamed Level 3A is because 4 sounds similar to DEATH in Chinese especially Cantonese. So if it is level 4 there will be no buyers for units at level 4 :-(.

This pool is rather cold as it is on Level 3A and has no earth heat.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to you all!

Empurau - The most expensive fresh water fish in Malaysia

Last week a friend treated me this fish.

King of the Rajan River, the Malaysian Mahseer (Tor tambroides), better known as the Empurau by locals is a highly priced fish by diners. A direct translation 忘不了 (its Mandarin name) can be summed up by one word - Unforgettable. Whether or the fish got its name from its taste or its price tag, still remains a mystery among many diners.

This fish has actually been successfully cultivated throughout Malaysia. Breeding this fish is extremely difficult as it requires a rocky bottom and a very large pump to simulate the running river in the wild. Water pH level as well as a cool temperature is require to get the fish in the 'mood' for mating. This fish can grow up to 30kilos. However, their growth rate is extremely slow, which is quite similar to their distant cousin, the Red Mahseer (Kelah Merah).

The wild Empurau, thrive on 'Buah Kepayang', a type of fruit found by the river bank. This is probably the reason the fish has a very unique and special taste compared to other fish. Some diners claim the Empurau taste different depending on the location the fish was caught at. The Empurau should only be consumed once it grows above 3kg, or its meat would not have firmed up, leaving it mushy to the taste.

It is extremely challenging even for professional anglers to catch the Empurau by hook and line as they have a tendency to throw off hooks. To make matters worst, the quantity of this fish in the wild has been depleting in the recent years due to its high demands from diners.
